Macaroni cheese

macaroni cheese

Ingredients:

  • 300g macaroni.

  • 4 bacon rashers, chopped coarsely.

  • 50g butter.

  • 1/3 cup of plain flour.

  • 1 litre of hot milk.

  • 1 1/2 cups of coarsely grated cheddar cheese.

  • 2 tablespoons of wholegrain mustard.

  • 1/2 cup of stale breadcrumbs.

  • 20g butter, chopped (extra).

  • Salt & pepper to taste.

Method:

  • Preheat oven to 200°C.

  • Cook pasta in a large saucepan of boiling water until tender. Remove & drain.

  • Cook bacon in frying pan until crisp.

  • Melt butter in the same pan, add flour, cook stirring for 1 minute. Gradually add the milk, stirring continually until sauce thickens.

  • Add cheese & mustard.

  • Add cooked pasta, bacon & cheese sauce together into an oven proof dish.

  • Add salt & pepper to taste.

  • Top with breadcrumbs & extra butter.

  • Cook for approximately 30 minutes, or until top is browned.
