How To Cook
Bacon

There
are several methods to cook bacon depending on
equipment available and preference. Some people
like their bacon crispy, others prefer it to be
a little softer. Thinner slices make for crispy
bacon.
For that
extra indulgence, brush bacon with maple syrup
or sprinkle with brown sugar prior to cooking.
This is especially good if you are adding the
bacon to a dish such as Caesar salad.
To prevent
bacon curling during cooking, remove the rind
and then cut small incisions along the edge.
Fry:
1) Heat a
large frying pan over a medium heat.
2) Add bacon
to pan being careful not to overlap the rashers.
3) Cook,
turning once until bacon has reached preferred
crispness. This should take approximately 5
minutes.
Oven:
A very
popular method of cooking bacon is in the oven.
The benefit is it is less likely to burn, is
cooked evenly and it doesn't curl up.
1) Preheat
oven to 200C (400F).
2) Arrange
bacon rashers in a single layer on a shallow
baking dish that has been lined with tinned foil
or baking paper.
3) Bake for
10-15 minutes or until it has reached it's
preferred level of crispness. Turn once during
cooking.
Warning:
Bacon fat is extremely hot so be careful when
removing it from the oven.
Grill:
1) Preheat
grill to a medium heat.
2) Arrange
bacon rashers in a single layer on a grill tray
that has been lined with tinned foil.
3) Grill for
10-15 minutes until it has reached it's
preferred level of crispness. Turn once during
cooking.
Microwave:
1) Place a
double layer of paper towels onto a large,
microwave safe plate.
2) Arrange
the bacon rashers in a single layer on the
plate.
3) Place
another layer of paper towels on top of the
bacon.
4) Microwave
on high for 2-3 minutes, until cooked.
BBQ
The BBQ can
be used for cooking just bacon or a full
breakfast. The benefits we find are it can be
used to cook for a larger number of people and
you can cook your eggs alongside the bacon.
1) Heat BBQ
(we use the heat plate) over a medium heat.
2) Add bacon
rashers to the heat plate being careful not to
overlap the rashers.
3) Cook until
bacon has reached it's preferred level of
crispness.
