Gingerbread men

 

gingerbread menIngredients:

  • 125g butter.
  • 1/2 cup (100g) firmly packed soft brown sugar.
  • 1 egg yolk.
  • 2 1/2 cups (375g) plain flour.
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda.
  • 3 teaspoons ground ginger.
  • 1 teaspoon allspice.
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) golden syrup.

Icing:

  • 1 1/2 cups icing sugar.
  • 1 egg white

Method:

  • Preheat oven to 180˚C.
  • Cream together butter & brown sugar until pale & creamy.
  • Make a well in the middle & add the golden syrup & egg yolk. Mix well.
  • Add the flour, ground ginger & bicarbonate of soda. Using your hands, mix well into a dough.
  • Lightly dust a surface & roll out the dough approximately 4mm thick. Using a gingerbread men cookie cutter, cut out the dough.
  • Place onto a lightly greased baking tray & bake in the oven for 10 minutes, until brown.
  • Set aside to cool & decorate with icing, Smarties and/or sultanas.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 water

Method:

  • Add salt and flour to a bowl and add water slowly.
  • Mix into a dough and knead for 5-10 minutes.
  • Roll
  • Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes, decorate with paint or glitter.
