Caramelized onions

caramelized onions

Ingredients:

  • 3 medium sized onions (red or white).
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil or butter.
  • 2-3 teaspoons of brown sugar.
  • 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar.
  • Salt & pepper to taste.

Method:

  • Peel and halve the onions. Cut into 5mm slices.
  • Heat oil or butter in a heavy based frying pan over a medium heat.
  • Add the onion & season with salt & pepper. Cook for approximately 10 minutes, until they begin to soften.
  • Reduce heat to low, add the sugar & vinegar, and continue to cook until soft (approx 5 minutes).
