Basic Pizza Dough

Ingredients:

Makes 2 x 30cm pizza bases.

2.5 cups (375g) of plain flour.
3/4 cup (180ml) warm water.
2 tablespoons olive oil.
2 teaspoons  dried yeast.
1 teaspoon sugar.
1/2 teaspoon salt.
Herbs (optional).

Method:

  • Combine sugar, salt, yeast & warm water in a small bowl  & cover. Stand in a warm place for around 20 minutes until the mixture is frothy.

  • Combine flour & olive oil in a large bowl. Stir in the yeast mixture & stir into a soft dough. Knead dough on floured surface for around 5 minutes, until it is smooth & elastic.

  • Preheat oven to 220C.

  • Place dough in a large oiled bowl & cover. Stand in a warm place for around 60 minutes until the dough doubles in size.

  • Preheat oven to very hot.

  • Turn dough onto a floured surface & knead until smooth. Divide dough in half. Using a rolling pin, roll out each half until around 30cm in diameter.

  • Lift each round onto an oven tray. Cover in your chosen toppings & bake uncovered for 20 minutes.
